This all started with a cameo brooch
When I was in my late teens, before I truly understood and appreciated the true value of the inherited cameo that once belonged to my great grandmother Esther Alice Longworth Helme, I wore the cameo on a black shoestring around my neck. I was cool. Trendsetter.
Then, the photograph arrived. This photo of my great grandmother wearing the cameo loosely around her neck, and it became all too real to me.
This had been hers and she wore it. Something clicked when I saw the photo, and this cameo now is safe inside a shadow box, not to be hung from a shoestring!
